Wedding Timeline – Pre-Ceremony Photos

When figuring your time and building your timeline for your wedding day pre-ceremony photos need to be given ample time if you are purchasing a storybook wedding album.  Speak with your wedding photographer and convey the type of photos you would like taken.  Discuss with your partner what photos they want taken.  Think of the time involved for each photo depending on the location of the photo shoot, the drive time to get there and back to where you need to be, along with any delays such as traffic that may throw a curve ball into your day.

Some questions to think about:

Do I want to see each other for a romantic meet before the ceremony where it’s just us, for some awesome pictures, get rid of the nerves I’m feeling, and for us time, or for that storybook album I purchased to create?

Will we exchange gifts when we meet?

If not meeting will we exchange gifts and want a photo?

Are family pictures, church pictures and formals being taken before the ceremony instead of after to speed up time to the reception or allow for more time for fun and romantic pictures in my wedding album before heading to the reception hall?

Will the bride and bridesmaids or groom and groomsman be photographic first?  What location and time?

Who do I want in the pictures?

The time for a group photo is 3-4 minutes per group.  It’s always a good idea to cushion the time here to allow for someone arriving late, or someone running too go get something that’s missing from the photos such as flowers for the group shots.

Answers to these questions will help you narrow down how much time you need for pictures before the ceremony.  Once you have these answers you can combine that with the length of the ceremony to write your timeline.

We will discuss ceremony photos and post ceremony photos in our next coming post.
